Close to Home

In my Close to Home series, I use bold shapes and a rich yet restrained palette to depict familiar Brisbane landmarks and everyday scenes. Drawing from my background in fashion, the simplified compositions convey a sense of flair, rhythm, and immediacy. There’s a quiet nod to mid-twentieth-century aesthetics in the colours and stylised figures, evoking a sense of nostalgia.

These works explore both the physical and emotional dimensions of home—security, connection, difference and belonging. Created during a defining year for Australia, Close to Home reflects on what it means to feel at home in a shifting cultural and national landscape.
